Holidaymakers and police were desperately searching today for a young British girl who went missing while on holiday in Portugal.
Three-year-old Madeleine McCann vanished from her parents' rented apartment in the Algarve last night as they dined nearby.
Tourists joined resort staff in a "frantic" all-night search for the little girl, who was described by a neighbour as "happy-go-lucky" and idolised by her "protective" parents, Gerry and Kate.
Today the manager at the Ocean Club - a holiday resort run by British travel firm Mark Warner in the south west seaside village of Praia Da Luz - said the couple, both doctors from Leicester, were "distraught".
John Hill said: "It was a very emotional and very frantic night and everyone did a fantastic job of getting involved and trying to search the area.
"As you can imagine, Madeleine's parents are distraught and not doing very well at all."
Around 60 staff and guests at the purpose-built complex searched until 4.30am while police notified border police, Spanish police and airports.
Sniffer dogs were brought in by Portuguese detectives to comb the area but as the hours went by, hopes that Madeleine merely wandered off were fading.
A spokesman for the Policia Judiciaria - the Portuguese CID - said they would not comment on the investigation.
British consul in Portugal Bill Henderson was with the couple and their twins, a boy and a girl, and Mark Warner said it was flying out counsellors to help them through the ordeal.
Mr Hill said that despite the report by a family friend that the shutters to the couple's apartment were broken, there was no sign that anyone had forced their way in while the McCanns ate at the tapas restaurant 200 yards away.
He said: "We are hoping that Madeleine is found as soon as possible and safe and well. Everybody here is just wishing that she is found as soon as possible."
But family friend Jill Renwick told GMTV the McCanns were certain that Madeleine has been abducted.
"They were just watching the hotel room and going back every half-hour and the shutters had been broken open and they had gone into the room and taken Madeleine," she said.
"They went out about eight, went back in at nine, they were fine, went back in at 10 and she was gone."
She described the missing girl as a "very pretty, very blonde three-year-old".
Ms Renwick said of the holiday: "This is the first time they have done this. They are very, very anxious parents and very careful and they chose Mark Warner because it is a family-friendly resort."
A Mark Warner spokesman said looking after the McCanns was their "first priority", along with finding their daughter, and added that if necessary it would fly other family members out to the Ocean Club, which it has run for two years.
He said: "Our staff are looking after them at the moment in whatever way they can but we can only imagine how awful it is for them.
"We are all hoping that she is asleep under a bush somewhere and we will find her soon."
He said the apartment the family were staying in was surrounded by other apartments, all of which have "quite sophisticated" locks on the doors.
Guests are being asked if they saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area, he said, adding that Mark Warner has never had cases of missing or abducted children before.
"We are hoping it's not that, though," he said. "It's the last thing we want but we have to investigate all avenues."
He said Mark Warner offers families a baby-sitting service where they can drop off their children for the night.
"Those facilities were available but, for whatever reason, they were not being used," he said.
Today neighbours near the family home in Rothley, Leicestershire, to which they are thought to have moved from Queniborough last summer, said they were "devastated" by the news.
Neighbour Penny Noble said she believed Madeleine was due to start at school in September.
She said: "They are a really nice family and good neighbours.
"They are delightful. We see them take their bikes up and down and going for walks.
"Madeleine is a very happy-go-lucky little girl."
Neighbour Tracey Horsfield, a nurse, said: "They seem a really lovely family, protective of their children.
"I see them going up and down the crescent. They are a protective family who idolise their kids.
"I am hoping and praying that she has not been abducted and that she has wandered off. They would not let her out of their sight."
And colleagues of Dr McCann, who is a consultant cardiologist at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, said they were still hoping for the best.
Doug Skehan, also a consultant cardiologist at the hospital, said: "Gerry is a popular, hardworking colleague for whom we have great affection.
"The mood in the hospital is one of great concern and we hope that Kate and Gerry will have their daughter back very soon."
The girl's grandfather, Brian Healy, said the family were "worried sick".
Speaking at the door of the family home in Mossley Hill, Liverpool, he said: "We're worried sick, as you can imagine. It's a very distressing time."
A family friend added that they would be travelling to Portugal on the next available flight.
Speaking to the BBC later, Ms Renwick said the McCanns, holidaying with three other British families, had felt let down by police in Portugal.
"I spoke to them this morning and they said the police had done nothing overnight and they felt as if they'd been left on their own.
"They just don't know where to turn."
But resort manager Mr Hill said this was not true, and that police had been searching with dogs overnight and continued to search today.
He said: "The police have their dogs in and have been conducting sweeps of the beach and rocky areas very close to the village.
"There is a criminal investigator here in charge of the situation and around 20 officers but unfortunately there is still no information.
"If I was in the McCanns' situation, I would be frustrated as hell if there were 100 police here - I would still be frustrated and want more.
"I can't put myself in their position but the police were here with their dogs through the night."
He said detectives had not found a forced entry into the apartment but said the shutters had been slid up and the bedroom window opened since the McCanns left.
As to whether the police were now looking at an abduction, he said: "We just can't speculate at this stage. I hope not."
He said the couple and their twins, who are two years old, were being comforted by friends.
"The mood is not as frantic as it was last night but there is a big police presence and we just have to keep searching," he said.
Mr Healy and his wife, Susan, were driven away from the house in Liverpool shortly after 12.30pm.
Bags were packed in the car and a relative said they were heading to Portugal.
Mr Healy's sister, who gave her name as Nora, said earlier: "They don't feel they are getting much help from the Portuguese authorities. It's a terrible time."
A Foreign Office spokesman said the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) in the UK was liaising with Leicestershire Police and other constabularies while a Foreign Office Soca liaison was also in contact with the Portuguese chief of police.
He added that two officials from the British Consulate in Portimao were with the family, assisting them as they deal with the Portuguese police.

Hi Brian i sent you a web address for a live web cam but i think i got the address wrong.
I just went back on the Internet and funny enough the web address which is www.webcamgalore.com/EN/webcam/Portugal/Algarve/536.html,well the web cams for all over Praia Da Luz and Portugal are suspiciously not working but there is one that is working and you can go on it live straight away its www.praiadaluz.eu/webcamlive this one is situated in the Luz village in the Lazulibar on the beach.I know you can record live web cams but its trying to find out if any of them have been recorded on the day that Madeleine went missing.
I'll keep looking to see if i can find anything about web cams that are recorded and if i find anything I'll email it to you straight away.
I am so worried about the Mcanns having to go home i just hope that the police make an arrest soon and hopefully before they go home.

Interesting are the other images which are 'the collective' around the User of Crescents. Again, the Keeper of Weapons makes its presence known as 'the dishevelled woman' seems in truth to associate with the court of weapons and certainly knows the knight who carried the flaming sword in the image. I intuit 'the dishevelled woman' in truth is aware of where Maddy resides and why she was taken. She knows the McCanns, links with the McCanns and is linked also to the campaign.
She contributes to the smokescreens in her own right. She appears to be there at the core of the campaign as well as being linked to those higher places which concocted the manipulation. Her role appears to be their eyes and their ears ... and to ensure the 'truth' is kept well hidden.

MEPs overwhelmingly support creating an EU-wide sex offenders register - and politicians across Europe want crimes involving children to be treated the same way in all member states.
Almost every MEP surveyed (97%) agreed there should be an EU-wide sex offenders register, and 95% said police should treat serious crimes involving children exactly the same across Europe.
Nearly nine out of 10 MEPs would support the introduction of a common EU policy on child abduction cases.
The research also looked at attitudes of British MPs, 84% of whom believed sex offenders should be tracked as they move across Europe and forced to register with local police. My hubby thinks the youtube video is fake, I don't, what do you think? I think Matthew James and you are right and together can solve this or have solved it!, also the video that you posted of the person filming a hotel room has got me, looks like a child in the bed, there is a ladies handbag to the right and did you notice in the bathroom the grill above the window?, also looks like the person is targetting other children, it is not normal to hide behind a tree and film other peoples children!

Thanks Zoe, you do have my talent. I know about several pedophile rings in the area, and believe that local police are a part of this one...and they will do anything to keep their operation secret.
The resort even boasts of a 'child friendly' atmosphere, and I believe this is why the McCann's and other parents take vacations there.

At the bottom of your very 1st dream-drawing on page 1, you have written the word 'Vilamura' . I had VERY strong feelings about that word! The name jumped straight out at me back in May when I read it.
It was suggested at the time that you meant 'Vilamoura' which is a small town on the Algarve - but 'Vilamura' (the way you have spelt it) is the name of an apartment I stayed in for a while when I lived in Luz a few years ago! Vilamura, 5, Rua 25 de Abril.
It is located about 300 yards south (and slightly west) of the McCanns apartment, on the way to the beach, about 70-80 yards NW of the church!
This apartment was owned by an elderly English lady who seldom used it, so let my girlfriend (who lives in Luz permanently) was allowed to use it for a while. Unless things have changed in the last few years it is probably still a very seldom used property.
When I saw this (and lost sleep over it) I emailed my thoughts to a friend living near there who was involved (with others) in the initial searches by using their Ultralight Aircraft. He told me he passed my information on to the local Police.
Now it seems, there is a lot of chat on forums about how the local Police may not have 'been at their best' during the initial few days, so I am left wondering in the info about this apartment was ever looked at!
I don't know whether to let this lie, or try to pass this on to someone again? - but who? I just feel very uneasy about doing nothing.

Long time reader first time writer. I just want to say what you do is absolutely amazing and cannot even begin to comprehand why the McCann family have not requested you to travel to Portugal to help them to find Madeline.
On Monday night i had the most wonderful dream that you had been asked to travel to Portugal and you found Madeline alive and well. I just remember crying with happiness and thinking if only they had asked you sooner you could have put an end to this months ago. I hope this dream comes true!!!

There appear to be new developments since the forensic results were received by the Portuguese police.
Just in at Sky News, Kate and Gerry McCann are to be interviewed separately by police with Kate this afternoon and Gerry tomorrow accompanied by their lawyer. It is said they are being re-interviewed as witnesses but the family are saying it appears to be more formal. This suggests some developments may actually be made soon. The news has being saying over and over for weeks that developments are imminent but it now looks like something really is happening.

Detectives are to question Kate McCann this afternoon and Gerry McCann tomorrow, a family friend said.
Mrs McCann will attend the police station in Portimao in the Algarve at 2pm, accompanied by her lawyer, Carlos Pinto de Abreu.
Her husband will be questioned separately at the same police station tomorrow.
Sky News Crime Correspondent Martin Brunt said police wanted to re-interview the McCanns as witnesses.
But he added: "According to the McCann family it appears to be more formal."
Portuguese police called Mr McCann on Monday to request the interviews, specifying that Mrs McCann should be questioned first.
It is only the second time she has been formally interviewed by police, the first being on May 4, the day after Madeleine went missing.
Detectives have already questioned Gerry McCann twice.
It is expected that Mrs McCann's interview will be longer than the one she gave officers in May, which lasted between three and four hours.
The development comes after officers leading the investigation were given DNA test results.
Sky News has learned vital clues from the results are expected to lead to a significant development.
Experts at the Forensic Science Service (FSS) in Birmingham have spent the past month analysing samples taken from the McCanns' holiday apartment in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.
The evidence recovered includes blood flecks found by British sniffer dogs on the wall in Madeleine's bedroom, where she vanished on May 3.
A source has confirmed that information gathered by the FSS had been "regularly fed back" to investigators in Portugal, although the official line remains that tests are "ongoing".
An FSS spokeswoman would not comment on the specifics of the case, but said: "There has been a lot of speculation. The tests are ongoing.
"There has been no change in that, despite what the reports say. It's a live investigation and we are working with the police."
The only official suspect in the case, 33-year-old ex-pat Robert Murat, believes the Portuguese authorities will shortly clear him formally.
His spokesman Tuck Price said he had not been told about any developments in the case.
"Why are they holding him in limbo?" he added. "That is still a concern - unless they are using him as cover so that they can continue investigating somebody else...
"It's still very frustrating - it's been five weeks since they went back in there again (to search Mr Murat's house for a second time), and we thought this would all be sewn up."

I Googled this "Da Luz ocean club 272" and got many different results, but I did learn that the Ocean club have several different locations i Praya Da Luz. Just look at the first map I am sending here.
Also the other two pictures I´m sending is from the Ocean club near the beach. And just at the left in this map over the Ocean club, is the church by the sea, that the McCanns visit daily.
Your DD´s have mentioned ?Ocean club?, ?same place?, ?near water?, ?Luz?, ?go to the church?.
When you look at the palm trees in the last picture, you have drawn something like this earlier.
The Ocean club by the seaside is very close to the church, and two witnesses have told the police that a man was walking towards the church and the beach in Praya Da Luz, carrying something that looked like a child. Madeleine can still be at the Ocean Club, just in the apartment-builing near by the beach!!
Your DD from 23. may said: "15 minute walk from the hotel room, check again, he works for the hotel, RM --"
This makes sense. The person is able to get to all the properties of the Ocean Club.

Sorry, Brian, I forgot to say where on this map Madeleine disappeared from. It was from the place where it says Palm Bay, just above the RECEPTION, where the numbers says 22-30, in the middle of the map.
You can see the Ocean Club on the top right has 3 tennis courts. Madeleine can have been at this part of the Ocean club aswell, but be "still in the same place".
Robert Murat lives inbetween these two top right places of the resort.

I´ve just had a look at this video of the hotel room, that someone sendet to you. And, yes I think too there is a child sleeping in the right bed, you can see clearly one of it`s arms.
Do you know who sendet this video to you. I`ve got a very strangely feeling in my tummy. Could it be that this child is maddie before or after her abduction?

I have just watched the ITV news here in the UK and a reporter outside the police station said that Kate and Gerry may apply for 'Aguido' status (Like RM) as apparently it will give them extra legal protection.
This hasn't been confirmed yet but it is very worrying. If they go ahead then they will just be playing into the PTs hands.

Missing Madeleine McCann's family fear that detectives may be about to start treating them as suspects, according to Sky sources.
The four-year-old's mother Kate is still being interviewed by police in Portugal. Her husband Gerry will also be interviewed by police again.
Police have said they are being interviewed as witnesses, but the family are said to fear that this might be about to change.
Sky News crime correspondent Martin Brunt said that Kate McCann had been with the police for eight hours so far.
Her lawyer had said she had been told she was still being inteviwed as a witness.
But the family have made it very clear they fear this may change because of the continued questioning and in the light of continuing attacks in the Portuguese media.
However, he added, the McCanns have emphasised that these concerns are dwarfed by their overriding concern for their daughter.
It is only the second time Mrs McCann has been formally interviewed by police, the first being on May 4, the day after Madeleine went missing.
Detectives have already questioned Gerry McCann twice.
Earlier, Mrs McCann issued a new appeal to her daughter's abductor.

UPDATE: I realize that the McCann's being questioned and possibly becoming suspects is probably big news in the UK and Portugal right now, but I urge everyone working on this case to keep doing what your doing and not to be distracted by this...no matter what the PJ says...let's find Madeline first...when we do the truth will be known. Minutes before Kate McCann arrived at the Policia Judiciara, the TV and press queues blocking the road began a huge shouting match.
It was intimidating, it was aggressive and it was necessary ... everybody wanted the best pictures.
The yelling that greeted Mrs McCann - reporters and photographers shouting at rivals to "get out of the way" - was less of a media circus and more like one of those punch-ups familiar to foreign parliaments.
One television report described it as "a colossal media scrum".
Yet even though the slim Mrs McCann was being rushed at by burly men shoving heavy, intrusive cameras into her face, she carried on.
A "nervous smile" is how Sky News Crime corespondent Martin Brunt described her expression.
Others watching the spectacle disagreed.
"She didn't show any emotion - nothing at all," said one onlooker.
Tourists Gordon Ross and David Allan, from Aberdeenshire, were impressed. They thought the couple looked composed.
"But it must be terrifying for them," David said, "seeing all those cameras pointing at them. Their situation is bad enough as it is."
But the scrum was justified, according to George Maughan, who is here on his holiday from Dublin.
Holding up his palm-sized digital camera, he admitted that he feels fine about taking his own pictures, which will take pride of place among his other holiday snaps.
"Everyone is so interested," he said.
But George nevertheless has a lot of sympathy for the McCanns. His grandson, Bertie, is the same age as Madeleine.
"It's so sad," his wife Mary said. "And the worst bit is all the conclusions people jump to, just because they've been called in to give a statement at a police station."
Earlier in the day, there were just two satellite trucks at the car park opposite the PJ.
In the hour before the McCanns' arrival, dozens pulled up.
It is easy to see why reporters get labelled 'vultures'.
Everywhere you look there are cameras, cables, tripods, notepads, pens, microphones and mobile phones.
But it is with good reason - how else would the world know the news?

The mother of Madeleine McCann was dramatically reinterviewed by police yesterday - and is terrified they are trying to frame her.
Late last night Kate McCann was still being questioned at police headquarters in Portimao, 30 miles from Praia da Luz.
It is the first time she has been formally interviewed since May 4, the day after her daughter vanished from her bed in the Mark Warner holiday complex.
Mrs McCann, 39, had a lawyer present, something that has not happened in any previous meetings with the Portuguese police.
Friends said she was extremely nervous about being "set up" and fears detectives were attempting to crack the case by pinning the blame for Madeleine's disappearance on her.
A Portuguese newspaper stoked her fears yesterday with hurtful slurs about a "scent of death" allegedly detected on her clothing.
Although police made clear the McCanns are witnesses and not suspects, it is understood that inquiries are concentrating on alleged discrepancies in their accounts of the night Madeleine disappeared.

A British source with knowledge of the investigation claimed: "Forensic tests have opened new lines of inquiry which undermines their version of events."
Mr McCann will be interviewed separately today.
Their answers will be compared and police will decide whether or not to change their status to "arguido", the Portuguese term for suspect.
Under Portuguese law, an arguido is someone who is under ongoing questioning.
Arrests can be made only once someone is an arguido.
Friends said Mrs McCann had absolutely nothing to hide and had chosen to walk through the police station front door with her head held high.
Neither she nor her husband are under arrest, they are not suspects, and they were not being interviewed under oath.
But a friend of the couple said: "Kate is terrified that she is being set up. This has been the worst week since Madeleine vanished, and we're not through it yet.
"They have no idea why they have been called back.
"Police have refused to tell them. They fear that they might be suspects."
The extraordinary development blows apart the couple's plans to return home to Rothley, Leicestershire, which they had been arranging to do this coming Sunday.
Now their departure is on hold while the latest drama unfolds.
And it came a day after a forensics breakthrough when police took delivery of "significant" results on samples of blood, hair and fibres found in Madeleine's bedroom and elsewhere.
Scientists in Birmingham spent a month analysing the traces, which were found during a review of the case by British forensic experts.
It raised the prospect that an arrest could be imminent, although police refused to speculate.
It is 127 days since Madeleine went missing, just before her fourth birthday, while her parents ate with friends at a tapas restaurant 50 yards from the holiday apartment.
Kate McCann nearly disappeared among the swarm of photographers as she arrived at the police station
The police investigation has been beset with blunders and, in recent weeks, the McCanns have been dogged by hurtful allegations in the Portuguese media that police believe they could have had something to do with Madeleine's disappearance.
Yesterday morning the couple prayed together at the church in Praia da Luz.
Then at 1.55pm, Mrs McCann braved a scrum of photographers and walked into Portimao police station, clutching Madeleine's favourite Cuddle Cat soft toy.
She had been driven there by her husband, who gave her a supportive kiss before returning to Praia da Luz.
Mrs McCann was kept waiting an hour and 15 minutes before the interview began, and she had to choose an interpreter from a list.
Police interviews are not tape-recorded in Portugal and, in the McCanns' case, every sentence has to be translated and written down in full, so the process can take several hours.
Portuguese newspapers appear to be in no doubt that detectives' attention has been focused very much on the McCanns lately.
Yesterday the barrage of smears continued as national daily paper Correio de Manha ran the astonishing claim that a sniffer dog had detected the "scent of death" on Cuddle Cat and on Mrs McCann's clothing.
The paper alleged that a dog specifically trained to sniff out a corpse had reacted positively when presented with the cuddly toy and also Mrs McCann's blouse and a pair of her jeans.
Friends of the couple dismissed the lurid accusations as "complete fabrication".

I searched the clip everywhere on the web (to my knowledge) but could not find the source. The reader who posted it before mentionned it was initially posted in This is London but I couldn't locate it. The url indicates its on a media server (mms) but doesn't give clues on its origin. The file name is " portugal.wmv" but it didn't come out in AOL video search or Truveo, for instance. It seems it was not indexed by search engines.
It may be a faulse alarm but i would feel better if we know who took it and when.

I dont see anyone has mentioned that running under the waterside village through the OCR is an underground watersystem that runs under the cathedral.
The Ocean resort has an artemesis well that leads to the aquaduct system.
I havent been able to determine if this is 1200ft deep
( as yr DD) but will continue to see if I can find anything.
For others and yrs info, many of the villas advertised for sale have their own drawn water / wells, from this system which is why I beleive one of yr DD shows a room close to water and why you have also drawn a lever which accesses underground.
I think this could be why you say she is "Under your feet".

named as a suspect within the next hour. In Portuguese law, this allows
police to ask her some very specific questons about the night Madeleine
disappeared. There are certain questions they are not allowed to ask her
unless she is declared a suspect.

Hi Brian, reviewing dds "outside city limits" which is on DD5444 is a term used when hiring a car. I noticed Hertz car rentals use this term.I went on the web page as if booking from portugal and they use it a lot.
Going to look into what the city limits are in portugal unless anyone knows already.its certain radius.

And now almost one month later... it happened...
What I do not understand is HOW this is possible with the UK police over there? Haven't they read your site about what the Portugese police is going to do, to cover up the whole thing?
And why doesn't anybody find out who the children were under the blankets of those women in the picture, with the (ex)wife of Robert Murat?
What can we do now??? I am absolutely shocked, horrified and intensely sad that it had to come this far, when they only had to ask you to bring them to their daughter... How terrible to have to go through all this. How devastating for Madeleine to be without her family at only four years old for so long...
Eventhough I feel they should have contacted you months ago, I still think that the sheer HELL they are going through right now, is so agonising that if any of us, for only one second would feel it shooting through our hearts, would be absolutely paralized by it on the spot.
So let us not give up, IF they have to go to jail, let's keep looking for Maddie and keep hunting their behinds like bloodhounds, until she is found. This ordeal with the police will not be happening for nothing, we will NOT allow it!!! And they won't be able to get away with this set-up!

NOTICE: My inbox has been flooded with reports about Kate becoming a suspect, and I do appreciate the information, but it's making it very hard concentrate on what's really important.
To my knowledge nothing has changed in this case in regards to where Madeleine is, and again I ask everyone to please ignore what the PJ are telling the press. I realize I said in the past I can no longer help the parents, and I'm not sure what I can do for them now, but if they request my help, I will do everything in my power to help them...but I highly suggest if they are still able...to psychically search themselves and go to where they think she is...more than likely Kate has had many dreams regarding this. Hi, I suggest she not take this offer...I also suggest the UK police investigate what's really going on there. I'm not sure how to go about it, banning all British tourists to the country would be a start...this would most likely force those who know, but not involved directly, to come forward. Again, it's all about the money, and a murdering mother and father is much better for tourism than a child abductor on the loose.

Kate McCann 'being framed by Portuguese police'

Kate McCann is being set up by Portuguese police to take the blame over Madeleine, it was claimed today.
The husband of a woman serving 16 years in another missing child case in the Algarve said: "I am worried Kate will be framed for a crime she did not commit, the way it happened to my wife."
The warning comes as pressure mounted on the McCanns after Portuguese police said Madeleine, who was three when she disappeared, died in her bedroom following the discovery of specks of blood on the wall.
Portugese police chief Goncalo Amaral has been accused of framing a mother in a similar situation to the McCanns
Three years ago Leonor Cipriano was convicted of murdering her nine-year-old daughter Joana although her body has never been found.
The detective leading the hunt for Madeleine has been charged with criminal offences in the Joana case amid claims that a confession was beaten out of Cipriano.
The Portuguese woman claims she is the victim of a miscarriage of justice over the alleged murder seven miles from the spot where Madeleine went missing on 3 May.
In echoes of the Madeleine case, the investigation into Joana's disappearance got off to a bad start when the Republican National Guard failed to seal off the house where she was last seen.
Goncalo Amaral was accused of beating Leonor Cipriano
Joana's stepfather Leandro Silva told the Evening Standard: "Joana's mother never did anything and she was arrested.
"I am fearful the same thing will happen to Kate McCann. Whenever I watch the news it reminds me of Joana. It is hard.
"I just pray Madeleine appears. With Joana the police did a bad job. They didn't spend enough time looking for the child."
Goncalo Amaral, who is co-ordinating the search for Madeleine, and four other Portuguese police officers, were charged in June with offences relating to the inquiry into the disappearance of Joana.
Cipriano has alleged that she was beaten into a confession during a police interrogation that took place without her lawyer or the knowledge of the public prosecutor.
Portugal's Ministerio Publico said at the time it had charged three police officers with torture, a fourth with omission of evidence and a fifth with falsification of documents. It did not reveal who had been charged with which offence.
Despite the charges, Mr Amaral, the co-ordinator of the Policia Judiciaria in Portimao, has not been suspended from working on the Madeleine investigation.
Police sources have suggested that Mr Amaral was "very angry" about the allegations and was considering taking action against the Ministerio Publico.
"He is very professional and has had a lot of success in solving cases," the source said. "He is very upset because reporters never speak of these successes."
Meanwhile, the Evening Standard has revealed that the planned publicity campaign to mark 100 days since Madeleine disappeared have been put on hold amid the recent damaging accusations.
Mrs McCann, a doctor, and her husband Gerry, a cardiologist, have stayed in Praia da Luz with their two-year-old twins since Madeleine went missing while they were on holiday.
The couple, both aged 38, and six friends who dined with them on the night of Madeleine's disappearance, have come under suspicion as the police case against the only official suspect, Robert Murat, appears to be winding down.
The pressure on the McCanns follows a series of leaks from Portuguese police and the discovery of traces of blood in the apartment.
Police are understood to have spent the past two days studying ocean currents to determine where Madeleine's body - should it have been dumped at sea - would wash up.
Police sources said officers, including British detectives handling the sniffer dogs which discovered the blood in the McCanns' apartment, were scouring local beaches looking for a body.
That bolsters claims made yesterday that Madeleine was either murdered or died accidentally in her room. Police sources suggested the girl died in the room and her body was dumped in the sea.
The Standard reported yesterday how police no longer suspected Madeleine is the victim of an abduction.
The McCanns responded to the reports by reiterating their belief their daughter is still alive while a family spokeswoman described allegations made in Portuguese newspapers as very "hurtful".
The couple have campaigned tirelessly across Europe to keep the hunt for their daughter in the public eye.

On November 27, 2002, The Guardian reported that many among Portugal’s elite were linked to a pedophile ring as well: “A scandal over a paedophile ring run from a state orphanage gripped Portugal yesterday as it threatened to engulf diplomats, media personalities and senior politicians. Photographs of unnamed senior government officials with young boys from Lisbon’s Casa Pia orphanage were among the evidence reportedly available to police after they arrested a former orphanage employee called Carlos Silvino.” One revelation in the case was “that systematic sexual abuse of children at the home had allegedly been going on for more than 20 years and had been known to police and other authorities for most of that time.” Teresa Costa Macedo, a former secretary of state for families, has said that she sent a dossier to police twenty years ago containing “damning proof” of the abuse, including photographs and eyewitness statements. The information was not acted upon, and, for her trouble, Macedo became the victim of a campaign of threats and intimidation.
In June 2003, the Independent reported that police “at first denied her reports existed,” but then later produced them. Macedo has testified before parliament that the former president, Antonio Ramalho Eanes, the former foreign secretary, Jaime Garcia, and elements within the police all knew of the ongoing abuse. An official report claims that, “among the children still living at Casa Pia, at least 128 had been subjected to sexual abuse. Many are deaf and dumb.” Countless other victims have passed through the facility over the last thirty years. Among those detained or questioned in the case were Carlos Cruz, known in Portugal as “Mr. Television”; Manuel Abrantes, a former director of Casa Pia; Joao Ferreira Diniz, a doctor at Casa Pia; Jorge Ritto, a former ambassador to UNESCO; Hugo Marcal, Carlos Silvino’s former attorney; Eduardo Ferro Rodrigues, Portugal’s Socialist Party leader; television talk show host Herman Jose; and Paulo Pedroso, a former Labour minister.

Independent noted that Casa Pia, founded by a police superintendent, first “came under scrutiny 20 years ago when a young inmate died … Officials found the home’s doors open all night and youngsters in a cruising area for male prostitutes. Four children aged between eight and 12, missing for a fortnight, were found in a luxury flat in nearby Cascais owned by a diplomat.” That diplomat was Jorge Ritto. It is now alleged that Silvino, an employee and former resident of Casa Pia, acted for years to procure young boys for rich and powerful pedophiles, including Ritto. Adolescent witnesses have claimed on Portuguese television that they were offered enticements and “then raped … and recruited for sex parties with powerful ‘friends.’ Others, now adult, have told of chilling experiences long suppressed.” A Portuguese organization calling itself Innocence in Danger has been working for years to publicize the problem of child abuse and child abductions in the country, but have been unable to penetrate what they describe as a “media blackout.”

Brian,i was rereading your last page of 9 and the link of Carol Everett really dont know her but she drew three people that she thinks are involved and one was a woman that she said starts with R and works as a maid in hotel and the other guy had links to her and then the man known as the fat guy with all the money and linked to Germany and vidoes do you get that same feeling from her drawlings??Have you looked at her pictures to see if you think it is what you have felt???Wasnt there a guy that went to Portugal to give them info on a German man he said has Maddy and they dismissed him as fake.What do you think about all of that connecting to your visions or dreams?

Brian, I was looking at DD5830 (referring to Madeleine McCann) and it says: do not trust police—cover-up MM, no blood. Do you think this refers to the supposed blood the police claim they found in the hire car. I couldn’t locate the particular dream, but in one you said that the McCann’s would be framed, I think this is it…now Kate has been named a suspect because of this blood.

Hello Brian, I contacted you some time ago regarding a RV I did for this child and you did get back to me with a number, but since I got my messages then wiped I did not have it to get back to you. The RV I did I saw a white house and of particular note to me was the fence outside which was criss crossed, but I have only now seen the part of the apartment where the McCanns actually were and outside on what I think is the balcony is this same criss crossing. Prior to this I have been concentrating on it perhaps being part of the Robert Murat house yet not seen anything like that so far.
Inside was I got the impression of a child who was perhaps drugged or something but not conscious.
After doing a further RV I got the impression from ground level of bushes, trees scrub and over in distance to right caravans or campling site.
This leads me to believe that Madeleine is dead and concealed.
However, very early on I had a strange dream where I saw Madeleine and she was standing next to three transparent pods which had babies inside like in the faetal position and one of them was bigger, a boy, there were either two boys and a girl or two girls and a boy. Then a voice said 'these will never hatch', and I woke up and had no idea what I had seen or understood. Then I have since discovered that Madeleine was IVF and can only conclude that this was indicating there are three more that could be implanted but never will. So that will be four children gone. I have actually posted this somewhere on a site that was sort of spiritual contemplative because it so moved me at the time, but don't know whether it was actually posted as they e mailed me for confirmation and I did not get to do that as somebody else who also uses my computer will often wipe out messages en masse even though I have requested otherwise.
What I am really saying is that I believe that Madeleine was with parents at time and perhaps did not even die right away, and is now dead and buried, though more likely in shallow grave.
I know that you have the initials RM but am wondering whether the M could be for Madeleiene or McCann.
I also believe that Madeleine has been secreted somewhere like cupboard or car boot or freezer with help from friend or relative. Moved around to various places until reaching her place she is now.
I always take note of dreams, especially if voice message as well, but do not always think RV accurate because could have other information from conscious mind cropping in and is best to do right off in cases of missing people when no other factors are known to corrupt and distort view.

Hi, the best way to do this is NOT to know too much about what you're trying to see. The more information you have, the more inaccurate the result...at least this is what I learned on my own. It's very hard to stay away from news reports, especially in this case. Even though we no longer have TV, I cannot help but read news reports people send me...I guess it's human nature to want to know what others are saying :(
I'm not going to tell myself she's dead, as I have not seen this, and nothing's changed since day one...I highly suggest that Kate goes to where she thinks Madeleine is.

On ITV news tonight in britain the reporter states that a source close to mccanns has said that kate mccann has been offered a ple bargain - admit killing madeleine and we will give you a reduced sentence - you will be out in 2-3 years possibly one year - this is outrageous and kate, of course, replied - no way

Hello again Brian,
Just a quick note that on the Gazzette Digital website Kate Mccann has
stated the smell of death comes from dealing with dead patients over the
months before going to Portugal.
If this is the case then, as stated by a previous person on your site,
the dogs surely would not have picked up the scent of death due to the
length of time it would have been on her clothes? At least about 6
months, therefore making it weaker by nature.
Also Kate stated that the scent on cuddle cat is because she took it to
work with her? If that is so, why had she previously stated Madeleine
took it everywhere with her?
I am very puzzled on this case as so many facts seem not to add up, both
with the Portuguese evidence and the Mccanns statements.
I shall reply again soon ( you must be worn out with so many people
sending emails) I'm sure this will be over soon. I pray to God that we
find this angel for all that is needed.

His name was Matt He said he just did not like the general manager at the ocean club,he had a negative sixth sense about him. and if he was going to investigate any one it would be him first. I'm still amazed at what a circus the police have created on this case. I'm afraid the McCanns will be convicted and with the twisted laws in Portugal, no one will be able to help them. If we go with the theory that Kate killed Madeleine, she would have to kill and hide the body within the vicinity and come back to the table by 10:00 pm. I think with the short window of time, given the fact that there were witnesses that saw her at the Tapas bar restaurant, it would be impossible. Lets say miraculously, that happened, Kate would need an accomplice to help her move the body in an area that would prevent the 60 hotel and police search personnel from finding the body. Lets, say hypothetically that occurred and her accomplice who can not be Gerry since he was at the table, moved the body for her. So, the body stays in a remote area until Kate and Gerry rent their car after 25 days. Then Kate's accomplice and her place the body in the car and dispose the body. A body would be decomposing at that point, so it would not make any sense to find blood in the boot of the car. So, if the police are saying they found Madeleine's blood, I find it hard to believe that is true in any respect. Today, on a radio show the announcer was talking about the fact that it would be too much of a coincidence to have Madeleine's blood in the family's rented car and the parents must be involved in some way. But, the very chilling thing that was not discussed is the fact that if the Kate theory is not true, then there is a very powerful and scary group of folks that have implanted the evidence in the car. Whoever these people are, they will go to all lengths not to be found. The other chilling theory is that if they had Madeleine, could it be that they hurt her and implanted her blood traces in the car. There are too many open questions just as Robert Murat's inquiry. I wish the British government would step in to review the case from soup to nuts. But, one might think that it is actually at the hands of the British forensic experts that the McCanns are being framed. At least, this is the picture the Portuguese police would like to paint for the public. I wonder about the witnesses that saw a man with a child running past the church and the neighbor upstairs that heard Madeleine crying. Are they dismissing all the accounts. What about the fact that Madeleine and her siblings were picked up from Crèche at 6:30. The sniffer dogs according to reports would pick up a scent if the body is in place for at minimum of two hours. So, that would mean as noted in some press reports that Madeleine should have been dead at ___ time . So, if not before dinner, then Kate came back to the room after Gerry and killed Madeleine and moved her. This is crazy! I'm afraid this case involves the most furious deepest darkest secret that will take a lot more than the McCanns to crack open. We need your help. The only way to solve this is more intervention from all angles and we can not let the evil people responsible get away with this. Brian, I think you are amazing and I think you are right in predicting that there are more children involved. I told my husband from day one that what happened to Madeleine is a part of a deep dark thing that will take a lot of good forces to win. We really need your help. Madeleine and a lot of little children need us to unite to overcome the evil. I truly believe this is the reason Madeleine's story has touched many of us so deeply.

What do you make of the latest? Something is just not right here…. I can’t believe that the UK authorities, who I understand are present in Portiamo at the questioning, could be complicit in a cover up?? Both the Leicestershire detectives and Scotland yard are supposedly there at the interviews….It does not make sense… they must have found DNA and other forensics that are leading them down this inquiry path?? Those results did come back from a world renowned/respected forensics lab in Birmingham… are the Portuguese police / possible abductors that skilled at planting evidence?
Sadly 83% of children harmed have some one close to the family involved…. Is this not a more realistic statistic than a one in a million abduction theory that the parents’ are clinging to?? I don’t want to disregard all your hard work on this case, I just think that the parents, their friends, hotel guests, hotel staff have all been overlooked in this investigation…..

Hi, I think it took a lot of planning, but they wanted to get it right, as there is just too much at stake. I do believe it's possible that the parents are not telling all...but I do not think they killed their daughter, nor have I ever. The next step in the PJ's plan, would be to clear Robert Murat from all wrong doing...if this happens, I believe without a doubt Madeline was taken by RM.
You're statistics are correct and you do make a good point, but that's what I believe and have had much success trusting my beliefs in the past.

Hi, yes it could be, but remember just because there is blood does not mean she is dead, on the contrary, it could prove she is alive. I still have not found the answer to my question about if it's possible to tell how old the blood actually is...I know there must be a way to figure this out.

I´am sorry to say this but i think you are not being very wise!
British dogs,not portuguese one's, the great british dogs sniffed what became the new evidence....so.....british police had to be around (they always have been and you seem not to know that)....so, i suppose tha your set up rv maybe not totally right. You may have dreams and rv but i think that you also have to pay attention to real facts or else you surely wont make the right interpretation of what you see (dream) and what is hapennig. you can´t relay only on your dreams and rv.You will often make mustakes. You had a rv about the set up, and the possibility of an arest...that is amazing and i admit it. Regarding for example the set up rv you could also interpret in another way:
-the police were set up by the parent's from the beggining
-Is a set up by the police to caugh them.
PS: on the first drawings there is a couple...well...the lady olso looks like kate. But in the end maybe you are right and it makes all sense that portuguese police as a dead body and at night put it in the apartment so the dogs could sniff it ,and in the car's to ..ou ...and also has maddies blood and put them in the car's they use and so on and on....please just think a litle bit.
Just one more thing...Kate and Gerry do have the church key, almost from the beginning ,you can be sure about that (it was on tv...they entered using a key).

It looks like the portuguese police didn't receive a very good education while they were growing up and in my opinion need 'TO BE SACKED & JAILED'. They have there little country all wrapped up the way they want it, and I have thought all along that they are involved, what a system, If you are a police officer, part of the government, part of the media in that country and are all FRIENDS you can get away with anything and do whatever you like, including kidnapping a child and framing the parents!

A scandal over a paedophile ring run from a state orphanage gripped Portugal yesterday as it threatened to engulf diplomats, media personalities and senior politicians.
Photographs of unnamed senior government officials with young boys from Lisbon's Casa Pia orphanage were among the evidence reportedly available to police after they arrested a former orphanage employee called Carlos Silvino.
A number of former residents, and the mother of one boy who is still there, have denounced sexual attacks on children at what is known as Lisbon's most famous orphanage.
Mr Silvino, it was claimed, abused children himself and procured boys for a powerful group of clients.
He has publicly denied the allegations and was expected to repeat that denial at a closed-door bail hearing in Lisbon yesterday.
What has most shocked the Portuguese have been the revelations that systematic sexual abuse of children at the home had allegedly been going on for more than 20 years and had been known to police and other authorities for most of that time.
A former president, General Ramalho Eanes, was allegedly among those who knew about abuse at the home but failed to stop it.
The identity of the mysterious group of powerful paedophiles remained a secret yesterday, with only one person prepared to admit she knew at least some of the names.
Former secretary of state for families, Teresa Costa Macedo, said she had sent a dossier containing photographs and testimonies from children to the police 20 years ago but they had done nothing about it, while she was subjected to a campaign of threats.
"He [Silvino] was just one element in a huge paedophile network that involved important people in our country," Mrs Costa Macedo explained in a newspaper interview. "It wasn't just him. He was a procurer of children for well-known people who range from diplomats and politicians to people linked to the media."
The material sent to the police, which yesterday appeared to have been lost, was damning proof of the activities of the paedophile ring, Mrs Costa Macedo said.
"There are photographs, an account of the methods used to spirit children out of the orphanage and testimonies of a number of children," she explained.
Mrs Costa Macedo said that many of the photographs were found at the house of a Portuguese diplomat in the town of Estoril, 20 miles from Lisbon. Four children who had gone missing from the orphanage were discovered at the house, where they had spent several days allegedly under lock and key.
President Eanes was introduced to five boys who told him of the abuse occurring at the orphanage in 1980 but failed to act on it, according to Mrs Costa Macedo.
There was no suggestion that General Eanes, a popular and respected figure who did not comment on the allegations yesterday, was involved in the paedophile ring.
Portuguese police insisted yesterday they had no record of the documents sent to them by Mrs Costa Macedo.
She said she had been the target of a campaign of intimidation to make her stop investigating the case.
"I received anonymous threats, by phone and post. They said they would kill me, flay me and a lot of other things," she said.
That campaign had started again yesterday, she said, with threatening phone calls made to her home.
Portugal has increasingly been under the scrutiny of anti-paedophile groups who have denounced its lax laws and uninterested courts for creating a paedophiles' paradise in Europe.
Belgian and Dutch paedophile groups are reported to have operated in Portugal, with foreigners travelling to the island of Madeira to seek out young children.
Investigators from the Swiss-based Innocence in Danger group, which claims children regularly disappear from the poorer streets of Portuguese towns and cities, say they too have been harassed and threatened.
Mr Silvino claimed his accusers were making up their allegations. "It is all lies," he said.
The orphanage's director and deputy director were sacked on Monday as the government pledged to clear up the case as soon as possible.
