Just wanted to forward you an update on the Dewey Horne case. Perhaps his business was not doing well, and maybe Stacy (his stepdaughter whose bike he took with him) had some idea of what he was going to do.

 Man's death ruled suicide

Dewey F. "Buddy" Horne's body was found on March 27.

A Jacksonville businessman, whose disappearance on Feb. 28 sparked an intense, weeks long search by police, family, friends and volunteers, committed suicide, the Duval County Medical Examiner's office ruled Monday.

Police originally thought Dewey F. "Buddy" Horne, 48, may have been the victim of foul play.

Horne was reported missing by his wife, Susie, after he was last seen riding his stepdaughter's bicycle around his neighborhood, the gated community of The Woods off of Atlantic Boulevard.

He did not keep several appointments he had that day for his car sales business, Buddy Motors, and he left his wallet, watch and work papers at home, where his car also was parked.

For several weeks, people joined the search for Horne and posted fliers with his photo in the neighborhood and on a Web site.

About 9 a.m. March 27, police found a badly decomposed body near the Ribault Monument in the 13000 block of Fort Caroline Road.

The remains were identified Friday based on dental records. No other information about his death was available.

Horne will be remembered at a memorial service in celebration of his life at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Community Presbyterian Church, 150 Sherry Drive, Atlantic Beach.

In addition to his wife, Horne is survived by three stepchildren, Stacy, Bryan and Trevor; his mother, Dorothy Jean Horne; and his sister, Marie Pfeil.

His family and friends have established a foundation in his name for children to enjoy fishing, which Horne loved. Contributions to "Fishin' Buddies" may be made at any Jax Federal Credit Union.
