A distracted man accidentally leaves his baby, in the car seat, on the trunk of his car.  The man will drive several miles with the baby in the back until the police pull him over.  The baby will not be hurt, maybe a little scared.

Another mother charged for putting kids in the trunk

An Alabama mother has been charged with felony child abuse and child cruelty after her ex-husband told police that she forced two of their daughters to take turns riding in the trunk of her car during an eight-hour trip. Cheryl Ann Schoonmaker was driving from Alabama to her ex-husband's home in Virginia with five kids, including an infant, in her sedan. According to her ex-husband Curtis Schoonmaker, the two girls, ages 8 and 10, were forced to ride in the trunk because there wasn't enough room in the car, even though they asked to be let out because of the heat.

Last month a woman in California was charged with child cruelty when a 10-year-old and 15-year-old were found in her trunk. Two weeks later, a Maryland mother was charged with reckless endangerment, after police caught her letting her three kids ride in the trunk.

 Our Federal representatives need to hear from you immediately. They are currently debating the merits of the Transportation bill, S. 1072. The Senate version directs the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) tocollect data about nontraffic, noncrash incidents, would finalize the 1996 open rule making about power windows and investigate technologies that would make cars safer for children. The House bill does not have any of these provisions.

Take this opportunity to tell Congress that you know deaths are preventable and that they should stand up for safety.......especially for their future constituents........OUR children. Visit www.safecarsforkids.org for more information.
