Calif.'s Newest Mega Millions Winners Come Forward

(CBS) LOS ANGELES A Southland family claimed a $112 million Mega Millions jackpot prize Wednesday, which they won after purchasing a lottery ticket at a Hawthorne market.

Robert Stafford and his grown children, Cynthia and Robert Stafford Jr., chose the cash option and will receive $67 million before federal tax withholding.

"Wow, I'm still blown away, right now even as we speak," Robert Stafford Jr. told reporters.

Cynthia Stafford said "I always knew I would win, in fact, I knew we were going to win when I asked my dad to go and buy the ticket."

"They never wanted to hear about it before, but now my brother has changed his mind," she said.

Cynthia Stafford, who took in her nieces and nephews after her other brother died eight years ago, plans to use her winnings to start college funds for the four children.

The Staffords bought their ticket at Freeman Market in Hawthorne, which will receive $560,000 for selling the winning ticket.

The numbers chosen during Friday's drawing were 28, 30, 33, 48, 54 and the Mega number was 25.

The odds of matching all five numbers and the Mega number is 1 in 175,711,536, according to Mega Millions officials. Besides California, the Mega Millions game is played in Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
