The collision of a tour bus and a pickup truck in Grainger County killed two people and injured 48 others Thursday night. The truck was pulling a trailer on Highway 131 when it was hit by the bus at the intersection with Highway 25E. It's a four way stop. Grainger County 911 Director Randy Holt calls it a "dangerous intersection." The two fatalities are people in the pickup truck. The bus was carrying high school students taking part in Lincoln Memorial University's Upward Bound Program. None of the students were seriously injured. Eight students were taken by ambulance to the hospital in Claiborne County. Another 20 were taken there by bus. The small hospital brought in nine extra doctors, along with extra nurses, physicians assistants and social workers to handle the influx of patients. Also, 20 students were taken by bus to the hospital in Morristown.
