Dear Brian
DD4520 shows some of Kanji letters.
I can see 伊豆(izu), 県(ken), 諸(sho), 歩(ho).
伊豆(izu) is the area near sea in Sizuoka prefecture, Japan.
県(ken) means a prefecture.
諸(sho) is connected with some letter under 諸(sho).
歩(ho) means walking.
It may show the earthquake around Izu, but not clear.
Hi, I was told this meant some sort of little island near Japan.Brian10.24.2006
Hi again, Brian . . . I e-mailed the DD to my friend who's been living in Japan for the past 12 years. Long ago, Japanese got its characters (kanji) from Chinese; the translations are often close, but meanings can be radically different . . . have you ever learned to write kanji formally? . . .Cheers, JB in N. Calif . . .
Here's what he's come up with:
=====
Not bad for someone who probably has never had formal training in writing.
He wrote one character perfectly, mame or 豆
I could also pick out the characters for tomorrow, walk, and even a character that resembled the one for bird, or chicken.
Could it perhaps be that someone is going to go for a walk and feed his chicken soybeans tomorrow? Yikes, couldn't bear to consider the consequences!
