Hi Brian! Guess you're starting the new year's out with a bang!

Drake's star...I checked up on that.

Let me start by saying that I'm a big ol' skeptic when it comes to alien life. I believe there is intelligent life in the universe. Statistics alone would suggest such things. God knows, I have been to the local bars and if earth has the totality of intelligent life, let me off this ride!However, I'm don't necessarily believe aliens are here, or talking to us, or conversing with presidents or anything. I have no grand agenda to promote.

But I am also well aware of your accuracy, so I thought to give this a shot.

First of all, let's see who this Drake fellow is. All my hits for "Drake Star" centered on Frank Drake. His birthday was May 28, 1930 - I think your DD was off by a day...but in the early part of the 20th century it wasn't unusual to register birth certificates a day or so after the actual birth, especially if it was a home birth or away from a hospital. This happened with my father who was born in the late 30's.

So...this Drake fellow is an astronomer and astrophysicist. That might have something to do with stars!

He had always been interested in life on other planets - though that sometimes conflicted with the sentiment of the day - and he ultimately founded SETI. www.seti.org

SETI is what he's most known for outside of academia, his pursuit of finding intelligent life beyond our own planet. He's been doing this for almost 50 years and it seems to be his life's work. He's written at least one book and several papers on this, and continues his quest to find intelligent life in the cosmos. Maybe he's been to the same bars I have.

He also created something known as the Drake Equation. I'm not well versed in astronomy, but from reading the wiki I linked below, it seems that it's an equation estimating the probability of extraterrestrial life.

DRAKE EQUATION

The Drake equation (also known as the Green Bank equation or the Sagan
equation) is a famous result in the speculative fields of xenobiology,
astrosociobiology and the search for extraterrestrial intelligence.
This equation was devised by Dr Frank Drake (now Emeritus Professor of
Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz) in
the 1960s in an attempt to estimate the number of extraterrestrial
civilizations in our galaxy with which we might come in contact. The main
purpose of the equation is to allow scientists to quantify the uncertainty
of the factors which determine the number of extraterrestrial civilizations.
In recent years, the Rare Earth hypothesis, which posits that conditions for
intelligent life are quite rare in the universe, has been seen as a possible
refutation of the equation.
The Drake equation is closely related to the Fermi paradox.

The Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center is a U.S. government facility
located at 39.063N / 77.888W near Bluemont, Virginia. The U.S. government
has revealed little about Mount Weather to date, although it has
acknowledged its basic existence and stated purpose. It houses operations
and training facilities above ground for the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) and contains an underground facility designed to house key
components of the American government in the case of nuclear warfare or
other calamity (1).
Mount Weather is a central part of the American Continuity of Operations
Plan. During the September 11, 2001 attacks a line of government cars and
limousines with police escort was seen heading from Washington D.C. to Mount
Weather (1).
The site gained wider public recognition when The Washington Post mentioned
the government facility while reporting on the December 1, 1974 crash into
Mount Weather of Flight 514, a TWA Boeing 727.
It has been suggested that Vice President Dick Cheney has been at Mount
Weather from time to time since the September 11, 2001 attacks, as it is the
quintessential "secure undisclosed location," though he
was known to have taken shelter at the Site R (Raven Rock) installation in
the days immediately following the attacks (1). Since September 11, 2001
Mount Weather has seen a dramatic increase in staffing and support(1).
As of 2006, FEMA has 673 civilian employees assigned to Mount Weather, most
of them in the Operations and Maintenance, Emergency Services, or
Information Technology departments. The Department of
Homeland Security even operates a fire department at the Mt. Weather site,
Mount Weather Fire & Rescue Company 21. Their first due area is Mount
Weather itself but they also respond to areas of both Clarke and Loudoun
Counties as Company 21 under mutual aid agreements.
A similar facility was long maintained at Greenbrier Resort. It is believed
that Mount Weather has largely assumed the functions of the facility at the
Greenbrier since that shelter was decommissioned (1).

Mount Weather in the media
�   Both Mount Weather and Greenbrier Resort were featured in the A&E
documentary "Bunkers" (1). The documentary, which first aired on October 23,
2001 features extensive interviews with engineers, as well as political and
intelligence analysts providing rare insights into these super-secret
installation while making a comparison of the Greenbrier and Mount Weather
to Saddam Hussein's French-built control bunker buried beneath Baghdad,
Iraq. The documentary features interior video of the Greenbrier as well as
the Baghdad bunker, which survived direct hits from seven Joint Direct
Attack Munition (JDAM) bombs during the early stages of Operation Iraqi
Freedom.
�   Mt. Weather was the inspiration for the "Mount Thunder" command post in
the best-selling 1962 spy thriller Seven Days In May.

I have at last unearthed your letter of
April
21, and hasten to answer it.

I note that the changes in the form of your
collations and other changes suggested by the
Chocorua Press
are acceptable to you, and the field, therefore, is now clear
for us both, although I must say that I feel oppressed at
times by the size of the task we have undertaken. At any rate,
frequently, when I have completed what seemed to be full and
ample annotations to an item, I have found it necessary to
revise and extend them, while in not a few instances research work
which I had not anticipated is necessary before I can consider
my annotations complete. However, I have lines out in various
directions for information I need and am gradually getting
things into something like proper shape. I could wish, however,
that I had more leisure and more physical strength so as to enable
me to make better progress than I have been making.

I shall be glad if you will send me any bibliographical data you may have on hand as soon as you can. You
need not be careful to particularize everything; just suggest
in a line or two what you have, and if I need amplification
I shall advise you.

I haven't received back from
T. G. Roberts, of
Fredericton, as yet the copy I sent him of the bibliography I had
prepared for my
Carman study, but expect it within a few days
now, and when I receive it, I shall forward it to you at once
for checking purposes. I do hope you will be able to make it
convenient to come up to Canada this summer, so that we can
talk things over in a way which is impossible by letter.

By the way, are you open to purchase a copy of
Low Tide on Grand Pre, issued in Toronto in pamphlet form in
1890 (the correct date)? My brother's widow has asked me to
see if I can sell the one which belonged to him. The

2. Quinn copy brought $57.50 in 1923, and another copy has since
been offered by
Drake at $60. I should be willing, however,
to accept $50 for my brother-in-law's copy.

Both the copies mentioned above, I may say here,
came originally from me. I doubt if there are more than a
dozen or so copies in existence to-day, all told.

Brian,

Stumbled onto your site while looking at info on Shawn Hornbeck. While at your site, I came across your DD4925. Before reading any of the comments that are posted, I looked at your writing and to me it is a reference to a return of Christ and the rapture of the Christian church. When the rapture occurs, the world leaders will come up with a way the explain away the disappearance of those that vanished in the rapture. It's commonly thought by many Christians that the vanishing will be said to have had something to do with space aliens basically "snatching" people, randomly. So, when I read down to the comments for your writings, it makes sense that some astronomer that was forming theories of space aliens, would be brought to attention. The Christian motto for 2007 is "To Heaven in '07."

As to the DD that told you to read the Bible, I suggest that as well. It will help you to make sense of what you are seeing. Do some studying on Bible Prophesy and you will be amazed. In particular, Ezekial chapters 36-38 are full of prophecy with regards to Isreal. Daniel is filled with other prophecies that are playing out right now, before our eyes. Everything is lining up for the return of Christ. Prophecy is being fullfilled. Christians are awaiting only the attack on Isreal by Russia, Iran, Turkey and Syria. It is at that point, during the attack, that the rapture is to take place, according to some scholars on Bible prophecy. This attack is still being planned, but, read the headlines, it's not a secret. Isreal appears to be in great peril, but the Bible says that Isreal with prevail and that God will dessimate the enemy of His people. The attacking nations will have their populations obliterated. All but 1/6th of them will die, according to the Bible.

Is the US smuggling nukes into Isreal? I wouldn't doubt that.
