NEW: Bomb scare forces evacuation of Prosser High students

PROSSER -- Prosser High School evacuated students before noon today following the latest in a string of school threats in the Yakima Valley.

"It's extremely frustrating," principal Kevin Lusk said. "We should be working on teaching and learning."

Students were removed from the school so police could check the building following reports of a bomb inside. Nothing has been found. But by the time the search was completed the school day was over.

Last week Prosser school officials sent reassuring letters to parents after rumors of violence circulated.

Over the past two weeks, schools in Yakima, Grandview and Sunnyside have responded to threatening notes that forced school lockdowns. None so far has proved credible.

"We're just taking precautions again," Lusk said.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- An 18-year-old was arrested on University of Central Florida property with an AK-47 assault rifle and ammunition that can penetrate bullet-proof vests.

Police said Jonathan Taylor, 18, was recently spotted at the Pegasus Pointe apartments, which is considered UCF property, and arrested on suspicion of trespassing.

When officers searched his vehicle, they found the AK-47 with 54 rounds of ammunition and another hand gun. Officers told Local 6's Jessica Sanchez that the shots could easily penetrate bullet-proof vests.

"I think after the Virginia Tech thing, well it is scary regardless, but it's even more scary now," student Eric Ruzzo said.

"It is scary," student Alyssa Marder said. "You don't want bad things happening at your school, especially so close to home."

In January, students called police to report that Taylor was standing outside the campus wellness center trying to sell steroids, investigators said. Police said a semi-automatic was found in Taylor's possession. He was arrested and told to stay off UCF property at the time. Officers said they will post Taylor's photo around campus, telling people to be on the look out for him after his release, Local 6 reported.

Papillion Reports 4 Threats Since Va. Tech Shootings

Teen To Remain In Custody For Screening After Threat

PAPILLION, Neb. -- Papillion police have responded to four threats since a student at Virginia Tech went on a shooting spree last week, authorities told KETV NewsWatch 7 on Wednesday.

On Wednesday morning, a teenager accused of threatening students at Papillion La Vista High School was ordered to stay in police custody. The 16-year-old faces a charge in juvenile court of making terroristic threats.

He was accused of saying in class on Monday that he intended to kill everyone at school. The teen allegedly told school administrators that he didn't mean the threat seriously, that he was resonding in anger to harassment at school, prosecutors said. Attorneys said the student had a history of depression. Sarpy County Juvenile Court Judge Robert O'Neal said he can't tell which threats pose a danger to others and which do not, and ruled that the teen will stay in custody until he completes a psychiatric evaluation.

and later told a counselor he was angry about continued harassment.. And that the comments were not meant seriously.

On Tuesday, Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov said that all threats in schools will be taken seriously, and he encouraged students to report what they hear to students and teachers.

"We start by erring on the side of caution, and that's what Judge O'Neal said today, too, said prosecutor Gary Brollier.

Brollier said his office has seen a number of threats at Sarpy County schools in the past several months. Last week, police cited another Papillion-La Vista 15-year-old student for a different threat.

Officials from the courts to the schools said they hope arrests and charges send a powerful message.

Papillion-La Vista Principal Jim Glover said teachers are being proactive by keeping an eye out for students who seem disconnected from school. The staff also responds to reports of bullying and notifies police about threats.

Glover said that students also have a heightened awareness.

"Because of Virginia Tech, there is thinking, 'Hey, someone is capable of doing that. What's serious and what's not? Could that mean my life? Could I be sitting in this class tomorrow when someone brings in a gun and, actually, could do that?'" Glover said.
