1) A virus of unknown nature will be found in South Africa, it can kill in 3 days.  No cure yet for the virus that is spread via cats or dogs? 

2) Small planes approx. 3 feet long with some sort of cameras on them will be of some importance to the USA.  I think one of these planes will crash, and a giant mushroom cloud will form.  Maybe the planes have bombs on them?  Do not really know anything else on this.

A new, highly contagious respiratory virus thought to affect only the greyhound racing industry is now being detected in family dogs.

Canine influenza, a sometimes deadly disease, has struck pet dogs in New York, Florida, and Massachusetts, researchers said at a press conference held yesterday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Edward Dubovi at Cornell University's Animal Health Diagnostic Center in Ithaca, New York, said serum samples from a number of suspected outbreak cases are arriving at his laboratory for testing.

He says he should know by the end of this week if the virus has infected more pets in other states.

Jumping Species

Canine flu was first discovered last year after an unusual illness began to appear at greyhound racetracks in Florida.

Cornell virologists, working with researchers at the CDC and the University of Florida, determined the sick greyhounds had a type of influenza ordinarily found only in horses.

This finding is the first scientific report of an equine influenza virus jumping the species barrier, and researchers are unsure how it occurred.

Virtually 100 percent of exposed dogs become infected, the researchers said. The virus is spread from dog to dog via coughing, contaminated objects, and even people.

Nearly 80 percent of dogs exposed to the virus contract only a mild form of the disease, which mimics kennel cough—a type of canine bronchitis that is rarely serious.

Canine influenza symptoms include low-grade fever, cough, and nasal discharge.

Nearly 20 percent of infected animals do not display any clinical signs but can still spread the disease.

Shrapnel Points to Drone in Pakistan Attack

MIRAN SHAH, Pakistan — Pieces of shrapnel that appeared to be from an American missile were discovered Sunday at the house where Pakistan said a top Al Qaeda operative was killed in an explosion.

U.S. officials have refused to give details of the attack on the house where Hamza Rabia reportedly died, but they have told FOX News that it was a joint operation involving U.S. and Pakistani resources.

Local residents found at least two pieces of shrapnel at the blast scene inscribed with the designation of the Hellfire missile, which is carried by the U.S. Air Force's unmanned, remote-controlled Predator aircraft.

The metal pieces bore the designator "AGM-114," the words "guided missile" and the initials "US."

John Pike, director of the defense Web site GlobalSecurity.org, said the Hellfire is used almost exclusively by the U.S. military. Al Qaeda operatives would be unlikely to have Hellfire missiles, Pike said, although he said the possibility could not be completely discounted.

A man who lives near the house said he heard at least two detonations and saw a white streak of light before a missile hit the house, sparking a huge explosion.

"I ran to my home fearing it may hit me," said Mohammed Nasir, adding that residents were unaware that foreigners were living in their neighborhood.

A senior Pakistani intelligence official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk to the media, said Saturday that Rabia died in a huge explosion set off by a missile attack.

Several sources have told FOX News the U.S. intelligence community is confident Rabia was killed in the attack.

Rabia was involved in planning two assassination plots against Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, and "we believe he was involved in planning for attacks against the United States," Hadley said.

Musharraf said Saturday it was "200 percent confirmed" that Rabia was killed.

The senior Pakistani intelligence official said the missile attack blew up a stockpile of bomb-making materials, grenades and other munitions. Pakistan Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said Rabia's two Syrian bodyguards also died in the explosion.

Pakistani officials said Rabia's death was confirmed by DNA tests. But the Dawn newspaper, citing officials it did not identify, said Saturday his body had been retrieved by associates from outside Pakistan. Dawn also cited unnamed sources saying the attack may have been launched from two pilotless planes.

Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed declined to comment on the report about Rabia's remains but said there was "other information" besides the DNA tests that confirmed his identity.

"He was a high-profile commander in the network. We were tracing him for the last two years," Sherpao told The Associated Press on Sunday. "Naturally any person killed in their hierarchy is a big blow for them."

Two U.S. officials speaking on the condition of anonymity said Rabia was believed to be an Egyptian and head of Al Qaeda's foreign operations, possibly as senior as the No. 3 in the terrorist group, just below Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden and his lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Rabia's death would not enhance the prospect of catching either bin Laden or Zawahiri, according to another Pakistani intelligence official, who requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of his job. The official said intelligence agents had no clue about the whereabouts of bin Laden or Zawahiri.

Rabia filled the vacuum created this year by the capture of the previous operations chief, Abu Faraj al-Libbi, the two U.S. officials said.

Rabia would have been responsible for training, recruiting, networking and, most importantly, planning international terrorist activities outside the Afghan-Pakistan region. He had a wide array of jihadist contacts, one official said, and was believed to be trying to reinvigorate Al Qaeda's operations.

One Pakistani intelligence official said Rabia had been the target of a Nov. 5 attack in the same area that killed eight people, but he managed to escape. That attack initially was blamed on militants setting off bombs they were making.

Miran Shah is a strategic tribal region where Al Qaeda militants are believed to be hiding and where Pakistani forces have launched several operations against them.

Here we go…

Those of you who read the first post concerning my dogs having “dog flu” know already we lost one of our five pups. Two of the others, the larger, more aggressive ones have completely recovered. The other two are fighting a heroic battle to survive but I am still not sure if they will. I have done all I can from anti-biotics , to H2O2 both by syringe and in their water, and pepto bismo for the runnies. They are still hydrated…you can tell if a dog is dehydrated by pulling the loose skin up on the tops of their neck…if it goes back down immediately, they are ok…if it just stays up…they need hydration.

Now for the good part…good being used sarcastically…my wife and I have caught it although not bad like the dogs have it. None of our children have but the oldest girl who has helped me a lot because she has a magic way with animals could end up with what ever it is. It just doesn’t seem to be as severe in humans as dogs.

One of our cats may have it but we are not sure yet. She is tough and will survive about anything so I am not worried too much.

What ever this is seems to hit some dogs far worse than others. Maybe it is a built in immunity or just tougher dogs…who knows? The fact that the bacteria can jump to humans and cats is troublesome. Also the fact that we are somewhat isolated from the rest of the world and the neighborhood dogs learned long ago this is not a safe place to wander. There is always the likelihood of a raccoon or opossum coming through. They are great spreaders of everything from rabies to distemper. The fact that all 5 dogs became sick within an hour of one another is also troublesome. There is no possible way they all could have contacted the same thing at the same time because of the way they are isolated from each other most of the time, are strictly supervised when running loose, and other factors that would preclude them from getting into any poison, contaminated food, or anything like that.

I will repeat the signs although the effects in humans is a wee bit different, still humans could have the same symptoms. It is much like intestinal flu but not nearly as bad.

SIGNS FOR DOGS

All of this happens quickly…

Sudden loss of energy

Throwing up…weak…staggering when trying to walk…eyes look like they are stoned on pot, half open…basically the same signs as Parvo Virus but without the nasty smell that Parvo causes. May initially eat, but as the disease progresses will refuse any food and may quit drinking. That is when you need to start hydrating the dog or yourself. You can find large syringes at animal/farm stores and rubber tubing at auto parts stores that will fit on the ends of a syringe.

Diarrhea but that comes later or at least did in the case of 2 of my dogs. The one that died never had it and the two that recovered completely never had it. For humans, that is the first thing that happened with extreme stomach and intestinal distress somewhat like food.poisoning. I think that is the kind of bacteria we are dealing with. If the dog does not die within 12 hours or less, there is a good chance it will make it.

Be very cautious after you work with your dog. Wash hands very thoroughly and I highly recommend washing with soap and hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, or a bleach mixture. This bacteria spreads easily.

BTW Dogs can catch Lyme Disease and the symptoms of that are very similar.

The bacterial infection is called "Campylobacteriosis.", and is thought to be spread even by air as well as shoes, food, and other manors.

Take caution if your dog gets this disease and immediate treatment is a must.
