Why do you post emails from people who seem to really be "wackos"? Sorry for the derogatory word, but the email recently sent to you from someone writing that the poor little girl's ashes were stuffed into cuddle cat by her loving mom, was horrifying! It seems to me that whoever wrote that, did so as a prank. It was obvious to you wasn’t it?

I hope you can help this family find their child and it is good to have an open forum where you can invite people to comment on your dreams and perhaps shed some insight into them for you.

Brian, you seem to me to have an innocence about you, a passion to protect the underdog a desire to be fair to all. I believe in your sincerity and generosity of heart. Please be mindful though, that some people are not so sincere.

José Cunha-Vaz, M.D., Ph.D. was born in Coimbra, Portugal. He was an undergraduate and medical student at the University of Coimbra. He began his residency in Ophthalmology in Coimbra and later trained at the Moorfields Eye Hospital and at the Institute of Ophthalmology in London, England. He remained in England for over three years where he trained under the direction of Norman Ashton, David Maurice and Barrie Jones. After a two-year stint in the Portuguese Army in Angola, West Africa, he returned to the University of Coimbra where in 1972 he was made Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology. In 1979, Dr. Cunha-Vaz moved to the United States to become a full-time Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Retina Service at the University of Illinois Chicago until his return to his Chair in Coimbra two years later. In 1984, he became the Director of the Deicke Cell Eye Center and Retinal Vascular Service, as well as Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Chicago. When Portugal entered the European Union in 1986 and new perspectives opened for his country, Dr. Cunha-Vaz decided to return to Portugal and his Chair of Opthalmology at the University of Coimbra. Since his return to Potrtugal, he has created the Institute for Biomedical Research on Light and Image, a 56,000-square-foot multidisciplinary research institute next to Coimbra’s University Hospital and AIBILI, a not-for-profit technology transfer organization.

Dr. Cunha-Vaz’s work has included laboratory and clinical research in retina and intraocular fluids with special emphasis on blood-retinal barriers and diabetic retinopathy. He initiated clinical vitreous fluorometry and multimodal macular mapping. His work has contributed to our present understanding of retinal degenerations.

Dr. Cunha-Vaz served two terms as President of the Portuguese Ophthalmological Society and is a founder member of the European Union of University Professors of Ophthalmology (EUPO), the International Society for Ocular Fluorometry, the European Association for the Study of Diabetic Eye Complications and the European Society for Engineering and Medicine and the European Vision Institute (EVI). He is also the coordinator of the European Network of Clinical Trial Centers of Ophthalmology (EVI.CT.SE). He is a member of Academia Ophthalmological Internationalis (Chair XLIV), European Academy of Ophthalmology (Chair VII) of which is now the Secretary-General, past President of the European Society of Cataract Surgery and elected presently President of the European Society of Retina Specialists (Euretina). Professor Cunha-Vaz has many Awards such as the Diaz Caneja and Paul Henkind lectures, the Alcon Research Institute Award and the Helmholtz Gold Medal of the European Society of Ophthalmology. He has been distinguished by his country with the Orders of Merit in Public Instruction and Henry the Navigator. Professor Cunha-Vaz serves on the boards of many ophthalmic and diabetes journals, is the Chief Editor of Experientia Ophthalmologica, has published more than 44 books chapters and over 401 peer-reviewed journal articles.

Probably too long a shot.. but maybe some of these long numbers you have
been dreaming about could be internet community IDs? Check Myspace, Facebook
and maybe more? Are there communities where the people involved could be
members? Pedophiles, adoption communities or something else?

Another thought about the numbers, could it be employment numbers?

About 216, 217 and 272, could this be numbers on the same road? Garage
numbers? Mailbox numbers?

Another thing, you have been talking about a cage. There is a zoo not far
from Praia de luz, the McCanns went there not long after Maddie disappeared.
A zoo has a lot of cages.. can it be someone working there involved? Can 272
be a number on a box or cage?
You wrote it a lot, sort of on the cage, maybe you just saw a number printed
on it and if so the number might not help us much.
You also wrote '272 no' more, maybe this is when she was moved to another
place or out of this cage?

Oh and in the first dream you write safe 3, tennis court 6. I think this is
only the timeline. She was safe at 3pm. They played tennis til 6pm. These
times have been in the news a lot.

SEVENTEEN human cells could provide a major breakthrough in the Madeleine McCann mystery, it was revealed yesterday.

The DNA samples are being examined by scientists in Britain and Portuguese detectives believe the evidence could unlock an investigation which is now in its eighth month.

Experts are trying to establish whether the cells match Madeleine’s DNA and so help investigators discover what happened to the youngster.

The samples are being analysed by the Forensic Science Service laboratory in Birmingham which has developed sophisticated techniques not available in Portugal.

The development comes only days after it was revealed that months of painstaking analysis on DNA uncovered in Portugal had so far failed to produce conclusive evidence.

But in a rare public pronouncement on the case, Guilhermino Encarnacao, head of the Policia Judiciaria in the Algarve, said: “We have asked the laboratory to carry out more tests and exhaust every possibility of obtaining conclusive results.”

Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry, face being interrogated for a second time by police in Britain within the next few days. It is expected British detectives will first question the couple’s friends, members of the Tapas Nine who were on holiday with the McCanns in Praia da Luz when Madeleine vanished on May 3.

They want to quiz the group on alleged inconsistencies in their statements over the events that took place the night Madeleine went missing.

Portuguese prosecutor Jose Cunha de Magalhaes e Menezes will this week send a letter to the Home Office requesting official permission for the interviews to take place.

Police in Portugal are still working on the theory that Madeleine died in an accident at the family’s Ocean Club holiday complex. They believe GP Kate and heart consultant Gerry, both 39, covered up the crime and later disposed of their daughter’s body.

The couple from Rothley, in Leicestershire, deny being involved in Madeleine’s disappearance. They became official suspects in September following the initial analysis of forensic evidence by the scientists in Birmingham.

DNA samples were found at the family’s apartment and in a Renault Scenic hire car the McCanns rented 25 days after Madeleine went missing. Tests are now being carried out on a blood-stained towel found near a disused barn on the outskirts of Praia da Luz. It is believed the evidence was uncovered after police launched a new search of the area which was said to have been pinpointed by technicians who examined mobile phone data.

Although the investigation appeared to have stalled, experts last night insisted the samples which are currently being tested are enough to bring about a potential breakthrough.

Forensic scientist Dr Ronald Denny said sophisticated new techniques had helped re-open a series of high-profile cases in Britain.

Dr Denny, who acts as an expert witness in legal cases, said: “It’s not a hopeless task. If they have 17 cells they can carry it off very effectively in Birmingham which is one of the leading laboratories in the world. It is a minute sample, something which even 10 years ago could not have been worked upon. But improving DNA techniques mean detectives can re-open old cases.

“A cell is negligible – you can just about see it under a microscope. It’s a sample someone would leave behind with the touch of a finger.

“But when placed with certain biochemicals a small amount of DNA grows to a size that can be analysed.”

The technique has helped catch some of the world’s most notorious killers, including the Trophy Rapist, Antoni Imiela, who carried out attacks around the M25.

Forensic Science Service tests on hand ties used to bind Joanne Lees in the Australian Outback also gave police the DNA profile of killer Bradley Murdoch.
