NWS: 2 Tornadoes Touched Down In Northland
Only Minor Injuries Reported

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Weather Service said that two tornadoes touched down in the Northland early Friday morning.
The first tornado was in Gladstone and was classified as an EF 2, which means its winds were between 111 mph and 142 mph.
The second tornado touched down in the Brookridge area and was classified as an EF 3, which has winds between 142 mph and 162 mph.
As daylight broke over Kansas City, widespread damage from the powerful storm system came into view.
Homes and businesses were damaged -- some ripped from their foundations -- trees and power lines were broken, and debris littered yards and streets.
At about 1:45 a.m., a squall line packing winds of up to 80 mph hit Kansas City.
"It was pretty much loud like a train and you could hear stuff just hitting the house. I thought it was hail at first," said Paul Rourke, who lives near 108th and Missouri 291 Highway. "I found a flashlight, was able to look outside and then I saw the house behind me and the other house that are pretty much gone."
Shawn Allen's home was knocked off its foundation. He said he was in bed when the storm hit.
"The bedroom door flew open because I had my window open in the evening. So I woke up to close my bedroom window and at that point the house lifted for the first time, and I got thrown around my bedroom twice," Allen said.
Allen said he was able to get out of his bedroom and went down the hallway.
"I fell into my kitchen. I slipped on the linoleum floor and fell into my kitchen. I had to crawl out of there. And then I tried to get my dog, and I couldn't find her, but I could hear her. At that point, the lightning flashed and I could see that the far side of my house -- the wall was missing and I just ran for that. I climbed out on my foundation and climbed out of my house and went to my neighbor's," Allen said.
Allen said the fire department was able to jack up his house and clear some debris so he could reach his dog, which was trapped in the stairwell.
"I'm lucky my family wasn't home last night. It was just me and my dog in the house. So that was lucky," Allen said.
One of the hardest-hit areas was a three-block stretch near North 77th Street and Euclid Avenue in Gladstone, where insulation from homes hung in broken trees. One side of a duplex was torn off.
KMBC photojournalist Neeley Schmitz reported that stunned residents were walking around surveying the damage just after the storm passed.
"There are a number of commercial structures from 72nd Street and North Oak south along North Oak to about 65th Street that have sustained tremendous amounts of damage, with some structures that have been completely collapsed," said Richard King, a Gladstone spokesman. "We have reports of houses with no roofs left on them, widespread heavy tree damage with power lines down and roads blocked."
In Kansas City, homes near 112th Street and Northeast Cookingham Drive were also damaged by high winds. One home under construction was blown apart.
In Independence, an Arby's fast-food restaurant was sheared off its foundation.
Some minor injuries were reported but authorities did not have an exact number.
Tornado sirens did not sound. No tornado warnings were issued by the National Weather Service. A team from the weather service will survey the damage to determine whether a tornado is to blame for the damage.
KCP&L reported 40,000 customers lost power at the height of the storm. Electricity had been restored to about half those customers by 8 a.m. Aquila reported more than 11,000 customers were in the dark.

Wow Brian!! You really are incredible!! I think your DD actually says CONCRETE block and not CONCERT. But the fact that you also drew the staircase is just phenomenal. In this dream did you dream you were the dog? What a gift – I so wish I could do what you do. Is this gift something that runs in your family or did it just hit you out of the blue?

Yes I was the dog...and you can do this. I thought the DD was about a missing dog Kevin wanted me to find, but I could be wrong.
