TOKYO, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Four people went missing after they were carried away by a flash flood that occurred Wednesday in a river following a bout of torrential rain in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, Kyodo News reported.
The four people, in their 40s and 50s, were among six inspectors checking the resistance against earthquakes of a bridge in the river when the flash flood hit shortly after 2 p.m., according to local police.
Eyewitnesses said the inspectors had been conducting a survey at the bottom of the river with water reaching their ankles before heavy rain started to fall at around 1:30 p.m. and caused the flash flood about half an hour later, the report said.

NAHA--The bodies of four men swept away in a flash flood during an inspection of a waterway were found here early Thursday, police said.
They were identified as Tetsuo Adaniya, 42; Masayoshi Nakamura, 42; Makoto Kyuna, 39; and Shigeyoshi Mori, 58.
All except Mori, who was from Inagawa, Hyogo Prefecture, were natives of Okinawa Prefecture.
The men were among five carried away as they were about to leave the waterway due to rising water levels following torrential rain on Wednesday. They had been checking the structural strength of the waterway in the Higawa section of the city. (IHT/Asahi: August 21,2009)
