If you go to the main page of Cullen Hayes, you see under NEW "WCH Sliding Derail Booklet" .
(can't post the link myself because it has to be opened with zpp-file  )

This is important when placing the Operating Stand as well. Ample clearance must be provided between adjacent tracks and other possible equipment or structures. Care should be taken to avoid derailing toward buildings, ditches, paved areas or other tracks where derailed equipment could obstruct movement on that track. Bi-directional “X” derails should only be used when it is absolutely necessary to derail equipment entering and exiting a specific area, such as a locomotive shop.

Under installation it says:  Once the location, size and direction of the derail have been determined the final installation takes just a few minutes

Scary isn't it?  Wonder if anyone can go buy one of these things.  If so,
is it like buying groceries?  Here is the money.  Thanks for the milk.  Or
is it like buying a gun?  Produce license and every other requirements
needed.

Wow!! The derail device...does look like the drawing!! Good catch...i completely forgot to go back and check thru the site. This is indeed scary stuff. It looks like just about anyone could get their hands on these things. Unbelievable!!! 

I know that the purpose of these things is to derail a runaway train...but as usual someone has to use it for other purposes.

PURPOSE OF A HAYES® DERAIL
A Hayes® Derail is a device designed to limit movement
of free rolling uncontrolled railroad cars. This is accomplished
by guiding the flange of a car wheel up and over
the rail head and deflecting it laterally to drop the wheel
clear of the rail on the field side (outside) of the rails.
Movement of the car is halted by the wheels lodging in
the tie cribbing and ballast.

Hmmm....Just came across this article about the Train derailing on 2/12.

"No Good Reason for Train to Derail": Fenty
Sources told NBC4 that the track system sensed a red light ahead, so it automatically derailed the train. The train was moving slowly at the time it derailed.
"The derailer system did what it was supposed to do, preventing an incident," one source said.

Yeah not sure ...i see a few connections with the Aero supply. Could be how they ship the Derailer's ...with plane parts. This actually goes along with the other DD..we've been working on. There's just to many things connecting...well i guess thats a running theme in Brian's DD's ...they always say ...look back they are all connected. Lol..
