Alert issued for missing girl
Article Last Updated:10/17/2006 06:37:40 AM PDT
OAKLAND — Oakland police have issued a Bay Area alert to other law enforcement agencies in an attempt to locate a 12-year-old middle school honor student missing since Friday.
Ajanae Scruggs was last seen about 8:15 a.m. at KIPP Bridge College Preparatory Middle School, 991 14th St., where she is a 7th grade student. The school is one of Oakland's most academically challenging and demanding public schools.
Police are concerned because Ajanae has not contacted her
mother or friends, which is out of character for her. She has never run away from home, police said.
Police Missing Persons Unit Officer Mike Weisenberg said Monday that Ajanae has communicated with different people on MySpace, a social-networking Web site, "and we can't rule out she might have met up with someone she contacted there."
She was last known to be wearing a red school uniform shirt and tan pants. She also wears a purple stone ring with a gold band, police said.
Ajanae takes BART from her East Oakland home to the West Oakland station to get to school and had both BART and AC Transit bus tickets with her.
She is 5 feet 2, 150 pounds, with brown eyes and a medium complexion.
Anyone with information about Ajanae is asked to call police at 238-3641 or 238-3352
CASE # 155: Ajanae Scruggs (10.17.2006)(LOCATED)

This RV has been confirmed correct by police and media reports.

I do not think Ajanae was taken by anyone, I think she planned on running away, and planned it for some time. I believe she got into some sort of fight with her mother over her school grades and was grounded for the weekend. I suggest interested parties check her computer and talk with the child mother, as she has a pretty good idea where Ajanae is. I also did see some dangers too, she has been talking to many people on the website MySpace.com...one of them being this 30 year old white man...she may have already contacted him. I do think she will be found safe, but many problems exist with her and her mother. All other details are drawn below, if I get a chance, I will translate them.

OAKLAND, Calif. A 12-year-old Oakland girl who has been missing since Friday was found this morning.
Police say a family friend found Ajanae Scruggs near an Oakland cemetery around 9:30 a-m and took her to the girl's home.
Scruggs did not appear to be harmed, but she was taken to Oakland Children's Hospital to be evaluated by counselors and medical personnel.
Police spokeswoman Roland Holmgren says it's unclear if Scruggs had been abducted and where she was over the weekend.
The girl was last seen Friday morning when she told her mother she was going to school, even though there were no classes that day.
Police are looking into several leads, including whether Scruggs had met with somebody she met online, possibly through her MySpace
page.

UPDATE: OAKLAND GIRL APPEARS TO BE IN GOOD CONDITION
10/17/06 4:05 PDT
OAKLAND (BCN)
The search for a 12-year-old Oakland girl last seen on Friday came to an end today after a family friend found her, Oakland police spokesman Roland Holmgren reported this afternoon.
At 9:26 a.m., the family of Ajanae Scruggs received a call from a family friend notifying them that Ajanae had been found near a cemetery on MacArthur Boulevard, Holmgren said. Ajanae was then reunited with her mother at their home in West Oakland.
Ajanae's mother reportedly notified police her daughter had been found, at which time police advised her to take her daughter to the hospital as a precaution, Holmgren said.
"We're still waiting to talk to (Ajanae),'' Holmgren said. "We want to go over why she left and whether she was a runaway or a victim of abduction.''
According to Holmgren, Ajanae appeared to be in good condition, although she remained with medical personnel at Oakland Children's Hospital and had yet to be interviewed by police as of 3 p.m.
Ajanae left from home for KIPP Bridge College Preparatory Middle School in West Oakland at 6:20 a.m. Friday and her mother reported her missing to police at 10 p.m. that same day.
Holmgren reported today that Ajanae's mother had told police her daughter's grades in school had been slipping and that she had recently grounded her daughter and taken away her cell phone.
Holmgren also reported that Ajanae had apparently "shown more interest in her boyfriend recently and had been spending multiple hours online at once.''
